Although not specifically part of the case now before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, North Carolina’s Marriage Protection Amendment is nonetheless in the crosshairs. And the North Carolina Pastors Network is calling for believers to take action now, before a lethal shot is fired.
“Because North Carolina is under the Fourth Circuit’s jurisdiction, the decision on Virginia’s Marriage Amendment — which will almost definitely be to declare it unconstitutional — will directly and adversely affect our own hard-fought victory for biblical marriage here in North Carolina,” said Dave Kistler, president of the state affiliate of the American Pastors Network.
In anticipation of the Court’s ruling, NCPN is calling for pastors, key lay leaders and other concerned Christians from across the state to head to Raleigh Tuesday for a press conference to ask Gov. Pat McCrory to defend the MPA by appealing a negative ruling as soon as it is announced.
Kistler said for the media event to be effective, a significant contingency of Tar Heel ministers and believers must gather at the capital for the half hour event set to begin at 10 a.m.
“In order for us to present ourselves in an organized and powerful way, I am asking that you be on the Capital steps 15 minutes early at 9:45 a.m.,” he added, emphasizing the importance of having “dozens, if not hundreds… standing together for righteousness.”
“The American Revolution would not have been won without the Colonial pastors and believers; the NC Marriage Amendment may not stand without your help,” the NCPN proclaimed in an e-mail alert regarding next week’s press conference.
Kistler further called on pastors to forward the information to their congregations and thanked them in advance for their prayerful participation.
The Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, agreed that the court case and its anticipated fallout should be bathed in prayer.
“Marriage matters, not just to the people of this state, who proved that to be the case when they overwhelmingly voted for the MPA, but more importantly, it matters to God,” said Dr. Creech. “That’s why it’s important that we take a stand and make it clear that this amendment is worth defending.”
He urged CAL supporters to make plans now to take part in the NCPN event on Tuesday morning.
