Most every American understands they have a right to vote. But not every American understands that they have a duty to vote.
Constant are the excuses for not voting:
1) It doesn’t really matter which candidate wins, they’re all the same.
2) My vote doesn’t make any difference.
3) I don’t know the candidates.
4) Politicians are all corrupt.
5) I’m very busy and don’t have time.
6) I don’t want to get involved in politics.
These statements and those similar to them should be seen for what they are, illegitimate excuses and dereliction of citizenship, the failure to make one’s voice and values heard at the ballot box.
Freedom was bought with blood. It is sustained in part by the ballot.
Today is Primary Election day in North Carolina, which means every citizen Christian should be rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s (Matthew 22:21) In our Representative Republic that Christian duty involves voting.
Here are a couple of suggestions about casting your vote as a follower of Christ:
1) Be informed as possible and let the Word of God be your guide in making your decision. You should vote your Christian convictions.
2) It is always preferable to choose a candidate on the basis of character, not simply electability, etc. If there is no qualified, spiritually mature candidate, then vote for the candidate closest to your Christian principles based on Scripture.
